The southeast section of Palm Desert is known as Indian Wells. Eldorado County Club

In 1957 a wealthy Las Vegas gambler won the deed to a 792-acre fruit farm at Indian Wells in a poker game. Realizing how the area was quickly becoming the favorite destination for the rich and famous, he listened when opportunity knocked and turned the fruit farm into the Eldorado Country Club.

By 1959, the member-owned golf course at Eldorado was so famous that it became the venue for the Ryder Cup. The Eldorado County Club provides employment for regular folks in Indians Wells, and exclusive luxury homes for the filthy rich.

Indian Wells Country Club

Also established in the heyday of the 1950’s, the Indian Wells Country Club has been rated in the top 25 of the Best Municipal Golf Courses in the country. So, this course is one that even regular people can play on. In fact, it has two distinct courses. One is called The Celebrity Course and the other is called the Players Course.

The entire resort encompasses 36 holes. It’s worth the course fees just to enjoy the scenery of this course. The perfectly groomed grasses and bunkers, the native flowers and trees, the waterfalls, and the Santa Rosa mountains in the background are truly striking. Even the architecture of the club buildings is impressive.

Tennis in Indian Wells

Indian Wells has been nicknamed Tennis Paradise. If you love tennis, you will be very happy with Indian Wells. The city is famous for holding the BNP Paribas Open. This is the world’s largest tennis tournament for combined men’s and women’s players. It attracts thousands of spectators and is great entertainment. If you’d rather play than watch, the Indian Wells Tennis Garden has courts that are open to the public year-round.

Different Kinds of Fun

But Indian Wells is more than just regular golf and regular tennis. At the Indian Wells Golf Resort, they light up the putting greens and driving ranges at night for some fun nighttime goofing around.
